PENINGKATAN KESELAMATAN DAN KEPEDULIAN LINGKUNGAN MELALUI PROGRAM BANK SAMPAH DAN PEMASANGAN REFLEKTOR JALAN

Abstract

Waste management problems and the lack of road safety infrastructure are major challenges in many rural areas of Indonesia. This article aims to analyze an integrated program for improving safety and environmental awareness through the implementation of waste banks and the installation of innovative road reflectors. The method used is a synthesis review of various community service journals and related research. The findings show that waste bank programs applying the 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) with a five-stage empowerment approach—enabling, strengthening, protection, supporting, and maintenance—successfully increase community participation, reduce waste sent to landfills, and provide additional economic value for families. Meanwhile, the installation of road reflectors made from PVC pipes reinforced with cement mixture and coated with reflective stickers has proven effective in improving nighttime driver visibility, particularly on sharp bends and uphill roads with minimal lighting. The integration of these two programs creates a holistic synergy: environmental awareness built through waste banks supports the sustainability of safety infrastructure, and vice versa. In conclusion, this integrated approach is recommended as a replicable model for other villages to create safe driving environments and environmentally conscious communities.
