Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the GEMPITA Program (Daily Nutritious Breakfast Movement), identify the forms of independence developed among children, and analyze the supporting and inhibiting factors in fostering independence among Group B children at TK PKK Dharma Bhakti Ngarum. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The participants consisted of 21 children aged 5–6 years, while supporting informants included the principal, teachers, and parents. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and persistent observation. The findings revealed that the GEMPITA Program was implemented daily through buffet-style breakfast activities that actively involved children in preparing eating utensils, serving food, eating independently, and cleaning their utensils afterward. The program successfully fostered various forms of independence, including self-care skills, willingness to try independently, self-confidence, responsibility, and discipline. Supporting factors included strong collaboration between the school and parents, active child participation, and teachers’ commitment to providing guidance and role modeling. Meanwhile, the main obstacles were differences in children’s levels of independence and the limited number of teachers available for supervision. Therefore, the GEMPITA Program has proven to be an effective strategy for fostering and developing independence in early childhood.
