Abstract

Social studies learning in elementary schools regarding cultural diversity is very important for students' initial understanding of the surrounding environment. This study aims to determine the increase in understanding of the concept of cultural diversity by using the cultural train media. The cultural train media is a flashcard media wrapped in the shape of a cultural train so that it can improve the cognitive function and attention of a media. This study uses a quantitative method, namely quasi-experimental, with the design used is Non-Equivalent Control Group Design, namely an experiment involving two groups, one experimental group and one control group. This study was conducted in one of the schools in Tasikmalaya city with a sample of 36 students, 18 students in the control class and 18 students in the experimental class. Based on the results of the N-Gain test, the average value of the experimental class was 83.51 with the "effective" category and the average value of the control class was 42.88 with the "less effective" category. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the cultural train learning media is effective in improving the understanding of the concept of cultural diversity of fourth grade students.
