Abstract

Background – The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) provides significant opportunities for sustainable natural resource management in Indonesia. However, the readiness of Indonesia’s young human resources to adopt this technology still faces various challenges, such as gaps in digital competence, suboptimal training quality, and limited access to infrastructure, especially in rural areas. Although internet penetration has increased, unequal distribution of access and the lack of AI integration in education remain major obstacles.
Objective – This study aims to explore the readiness challenges of Indonesia’s young human resources in adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to support sustainable natural resource management.
Design / Methodology / Approach – This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach to identify and analyze gaps in digital competence, training quality, and infrastructure access that affect the effectiveness of AI technology adoption.
Findings – The findings show that although internet penetration has increased, unequal access distribution and limited integration of AI education remain the main challenges. In addition, the lack of continuous training and the low level of technical readiness among young generations hinder the optimal use of AI in natural resource management.
Research Implication – Strengthening technical education, promoting continuous training, and improving infrastructure in rural areas are essential steps to develop a skilled and adaptive young generation. Collaboration among educational institutions, industry, and government is crucial to achieving technological sustainability and more efficient natural resource management.
Limitations – This study is limited by its qualitative descriptive approach, making the results more exploratory and lacking quantitative measurement of the readiness level of young human resources. In addition, the research scope does not specifically differentiate conditions across regions in Indonesia, which have varying levels of technology access.
