This study aimed to evaluate the impact of using expired Ovaprim hormone on successful artificial spawning in farmed fish. The research was conducted in Lologolu Village, Mandrehe Sub-district, West Nias Regency using an experimental method involving two female broodstock that weighed 4 kg and 2 kg respectively. Ovaprim used had expired in 2023 at a dose of 0.5 ml/kg body weight mixed with distilled water in a 1:1 ratio. Spawning was conducted in a 2m x 1.5m concrete pond with a water depth of 30-40 cm and a flowing water circulation system. The results revealed that the use of expired Ovaprim could still trigger ovulation in both female parents. The hatching success rate only reached 40%, while 60% of the eggs died as indicated by a change in color to white and some reddish green after 4 hours of stocking. The water temperature at the time of hatching was below 26°C which may have contributed to the low hatching success rate. This study shows that although expired Ovaprim can still be used to trigger spawning, its effectiveness is significantly reduced when compared to the good hormone, so its use should be carefully considered in aquaculture practices.
