Abstract

Whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is an important commodity in aquaculture due to its rapid growth and high economic value, making feed management a key factor in improving production efficiency. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different feeding frequencies on biomass growth and feed utilization efficiency of whiteleg shrimp during the culture period of DOC 30–60. The research employed an experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of three feeding frequency treatments, namely 3 times/day, 4 times/day, and 5 times/day with three replications each. The observed parameters included shrimp biomass, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), and water quality parameters such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), and salinity. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a 5% significance level followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The results indicated that feeding frequency significantly affected shrimp biomass. The treatment of feeding three times per day produced a biomass of 1148.67 ± 13.50 g, four times per day produced 1182.33 ± 9.61 g, and five times per day produced 1204.00 ± 6.00 g, with the highest biomass obtained from the five times per day treatment. The FCR values ranged from 0.86 to 0.87 and showed no significant difference among treatments. Water quality parameters during the study remained within the optimal range according to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 01-7246-2006), supporting optimal shrimp growth. The findings indicate that increasing feeding frequency tends to enhance shrimp biomass but does not significantly affect feed utilization efficiency.
