Purpose – Social and emotional development is a crucial foundation for early childhood interaction and self-management in the future. The EMC2 (Empathy, Mindfulness, Compassion, and Critical Inquiry) approach presents a transformative framework for building children's emotional intelligence and resilience. This community service activity aims to improve the understanding and skills of educators in Early Childhood Education (PAUD) institutions and parents in stimulating children's social and emotional development through the EMC2 approach.
Design/methodology/approach – The implementation method was carried out through an educational webinar involving 30 participants (teachers and parents). The activity stages included: Pre-test to measure initial understanding; Presentation of material on the four pillars of EMC2; Simulation/Interactive case studies; Post-test and Q&A discussion
Findings – The community service results showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of the importance of empathy and mindfulness in parenting. Participants reported that the Critical Inquiry strategy provided a new perspective in encouraging children to think logically when facing social conflicts
Originality/value – This webinar activity was effective in providing new insights for the PAUD community regarding the holistic EMC2 approach. Ongoing mentoring is recommended to integrate EMC2 values into the daily curriculum and parenting practices at home to create a positive learning environment.
