Abstract

Purpose - The Community Service (PkM) program, titled "The Green Movement: Time for the Community to Act for an Emission-Free Earth" was driven by the significant contribution of household organic waste to greenhouse gas emissions and the lack of practical waste management among the community, despite their preliminary awareness of environmental issues. This program aimed to enhance public understanding of the impacts of household emissions, encourage a transition toward a low-emission lifestyle, and equip the partners with practical skills in simple composting.

Design/Methodology/Approach - The program was implemented using a participatory approach consisting of three main stages: socialization, composting training, and a questionnaire-based evaluation.

Findings – The results indicated a 90% program success rate, marked by a significant improvement in the community's understanding and positive attitudes toward eco-friendly waste management.

Originality/Value - The program yielded an economic impact through potential savings on household fertilizer costs, as well as social impacts, including increased civic participation and the cultivation of new habits to maintain environmental sustainability.
