EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE OF STUDENTS AT NANCHANG VOCATIONAL UNIVERSITY

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate overall emotional intelligence and the levels of personal and social ability among students at Nanchang Vocational University, and to compare emotional intelligence across student groups classified by gender, age, living situation, family monthly income, and grade point average. A quantitative research design was adopted, and data were collected from 600 students using a questionnaire on emotional intelligence. Descriptive statistics were used to examine the overall and dimensional levels of emotional intelligence, while inferential statistics were used to compare differences among demographic and academic groups. The findings showed that students had a high level of emotional intelligence overall, with high scores in both personal and social abilities. The results also indicated statistically significant differences in emotional intelligence according to gender, age, living situation, family monthly income, and GPA. These findings suggest that vocational universities should strengthen emotional intelligence education, counselling services, and student development programs by considering students' demographic, family, and academic characteristics.
